Museum Docent (Tour Guide)
The museum docent extends the museum’s goal to inspire visitors to enrich their lives through the go-go culture by fulfilling specific roles and responsibilities directly related to the mission and providing exceptional customer service to all patrons. Volunteers work side by side with museum staff to provide guided tours for visitors and VIP guests.
Location: 1920 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, Washington, DC 20020
Report To: Go-Go Museum & Cafe Leadership Team; Venue Operations Manager or House Manager
Time Commitment: The museum will be open 1-2 weekends out of the month, Saturday or Sunday, in 6-8-hour shifts (based on operating hours) for at least three months.
Qualifications: High School Diploma; Pleasant and professional manner; dependability; and customer service experience. Some knowledge of Go-Go music and culture is a plus.
Support: An orientation and training sessions will be provided. In addition, the Go-Go Museum & Cafe’s leadership staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance.
Age Requirement: 18 or Older
Attire: Go-Go Museum & Cafe shirt with Black, Denim, or Khaki bottoms; No rips or tears
Key Responsibilities:

Act as a greeter to greet visitors as they arrive.

Check-in all visitors using the electronic sign-in system.

Conduct tours of the exhibitions and provide detailed information on pivotal events within the gogo culture’s history

Provide private tours to VIP guests such as government officials, special guests, etc. during private events hosted by GMC.
