GMC Merch Shop Attendant

The merch shop extends GMC’s mission to inspire visitors to enrich their lives through the go-go culture by providing branded merchandise and generating funds to support the museum. Volunteers work side by side with museum staff to assist museum visitors as they make selections, keep the shop well stocked, ensure that merchandise is attractively displayed, and operate a user-friendly payment system.

Location: 1920 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE, Washington, DC 20020

 

Report To: Go-Go Museum & Cafe Leadership Team; Venue Operations Manager or House Manager

 

Time Commitment: The museum will be open 1-2 weekends out of the month, Saturday or Sunday, in 6-8-hour shifts (based on operating hours) for at least three months.

 

Qualifications: High School Diploma; Pleasant and professional manner; dependability; and customer service experience. Experience with digital platforms such as Google Workspace, Square, Cash app, etc. Some knowledge of Go-Go music and culture is a plus.

 

Support: An orientation and training sessions will be provided. In addition, the Go-Go Museum & Cafe’s leadership staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance. 

 

Age Requirement: 18 or Older

 

Attire:  Go-Go Museum & Cafe shirt with Black, Denim, or Khaki bottoms; No rips or tears 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet museum visitors and provide customer service to merch shop patrons.

  • Tend to the merch shop by ensuring merchandise is set up neatly, and the inventory list is continuously updated at the end of the day.

  • Conduct merchandise transactions using the Square system or other eCommerce platforms.
